Social Media & Media Intern Application

Overview:

This intern will handle both the day-to-day social media operations (content creation, scheduling, engagement) and develop compelling visual media (photos, videos, and graphics) to support our party’s initiatives.


This is an 1099-independent contractor position, and the will be paid once per month. The position reports to the Steering Committee and Executive Committee and is a one-semester commitment.

Key Responsibilities:

Content Creation & Scheduling
  • Draft 2-3 social media posts per week aligned with party messaging (e.g., event promotions, policy highlights, voter registration reminders).
  • Curate/share relevant articles or partner content (e.g., TN Democratic Party updates).
  • Use tools like Meta Business Suite or Canva to plan and schedule content each week.
Media Capture & Production
  • Attend local events (e.g., town halls, canvassing) to capture photos/video for social media.
  • Edit and produce short-form video (using CapCut, iMovie) and graphics (using Canva/Adobe) for event recaps, volunteer spotlights, and policy announcements.
  • Organize and archive media assets in a shared drive for easy team access.
Engagement & Community Management
  • Monitor comments/messages daily; respond to or escalate inquiries about volunteering, donations, or event details.
  • Engage with local community groups, partner organizations, and relevant hashtags or trends to increase reach.
Analytics & Coordination
  • Track basic metrics (engagement, follower growth, video views) using platform insights.
  • Provide brief weekly updates on performance and suggest content adjustments.
  • Collaborate with team leads to align on upcoming events, campaign priorities, and messaging.

Weekly Time Breakdown (5 Hours Total):

  • 2 hours: Content creation & scheduling
  • 1 hour: Event coverage (photo/video) and media capture
  • 1 hour: Editing and production of visual assets
  • 0.5 hours: Engagement & community management
  • 0.5 hours: Analytics review & coordination with the team

Goals:

  • Increase follower count by 5% each month
  • Maintain a 5%+ engagement rate on posts
  • Deliver 2–3 polished visual assets weekly (photos, videos, or graphics)
  • Grow video viewership by 10% monthly across social platforms

Compensation:

  • $15/hour for 5 hours per week
  • Paid monthly

This role requires strong communication skills, basic graphic/video editing ability, and an enthusiasm for Democratic party values. The intern will gain hands-on experience in social media strategy, community engagement, and multimedia production – all while making a meaningful contribution to local politics.
